26016. Caleb Cushing. Born on 10 Oct 1703 in Salisbury, MA.2 Caleb died in Salisbury, MA, on 28 Dec 1797; he was 94.

    Caleb was a magistrate in Salisbury for upwards of 50 years, a great part of the time a Judge of the Court for the County of Essex, and for 27 years a representative in the General Court. He was also a deacon in the Church. He was Colonel of the Essex regiment (from which, in 1756, men enlisted for the expedition against Crown Point). One of the Governor’s Council from 1771 to 1774 inclusive, and Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas. Although 75 years of age, he was a deligate in 1778 to the Constitutional Convention. He also served in the Provincial Congress.
On 20 Sep 1730 when Caleb was 26, he married Mary Newmarch, daughter of Rev. John Newmarch (8 Oct 1672-15 Jan 1754) & Mary Harvey (ca 1672-5 Mar 1721/2), in Salisbury, MA. Born ca 1705 in Kittery, York County, Maine. Mary died in Salisbury, MA on 11 Dec 1794.

26017. Rev. James Cushing. Born on 25 Nov 1705 in Salisbury, MA.2 James died in Plaistow, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, on 13 May 1764; he was 58. Buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Haverhill. Education: Harvard 1725.2

    James graduated from Harvard College in 1725. He was ordained 2 Dec 1730, and settled as the first Minister at Haverhill and Plaistow, NH.
    ‘Rev. James Cushing was a solid and fervent preacher, in conduct upright, prudent and steady, and recommended the amiable religion of his Master, by meekness and patience, condescension and candor, a tender sympathy with his flock, and a studious endeavor to maintain and promote the things of peace.’ (Collections of the Mass. Hist. Soc., 2nd Series, Vol. II.)2

On 16 Oct 1730 when James was 24, he married Anna Wainwright, daughter of Capt. John Wainwright (30 Oct 1690-4 Oct 1721) & Hannah Redford (16 May 1695-).2 Born 11 Feb 1712/3 in Haverhill, MA.325 Anna died in Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire on 12 Feb 1810. Buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Haverhill.

John, ordained minister 29 Dec 1736, and became the first minister of the 2nd Church of Boxford, MA.2
On 8 Apr 1734 when John was 24, he married Elizabeth Martin, daughter of John Martin & Sarah White.2 Born on 16 May 1714. Elizabeth died in Durham, Androscoggin County, Maine, on 18 Oct 1789; she was 75.2

It is unclear who the John and Sarah (White) Martin, supposedly Elizabeth’s parents, were, if indeed those were her parents’ names.
