Brown Emerson was town clerk, 1747-1770; Selectman, 1746, 1765, 1766, 1767, 1768, and 1769; and deacon from 1746 until his death, 1774. His will, dated 8 Mar 1774, proved 5 Apr 1774, named his wife Sarah, son Peter (all lands in Reading and one-half of a grist mill in Lynn); five other sons, Jacob, John, Daniel, Timothy, and Brown; and daughter Sarah Eaton.6
