Samuel was usually called Samuel Curtis 3d in the town records. Samuel Curtis 1st was his father. Samuel Curtis 2nd was born 1750 and married Mercy Joyce, son of a different Samuel Curtis.

Samuel died age 48 years 7 months 2 days, at sea. According to his cenotaph at Scituate, Capt. Samuel Curtis 3d died “on a Voige to North-Carolina and was Buried at Marth’s Vineyard”.52
