Pane-Joyce Genealogy
59749. Lewis Harden. Born on 3 Jun 1789 in Virginia.671 Lewis died in Ohio on 3 Jul 1860; he was 71.671

(It has been stated that Lewis was a son of William and Clarissa (Million) Harding of Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., VA. That is not the case. William did have a son Lewis who was mentioned in an indenture dated 1784, but that couldn’t have been this Lewis who wasn’t born until 1789.)

The Hardens share a dwelling with George Sorrick. There are other Sorrick families nearby.

Nancy (Cromer) Sorrick, wife of George Sorrick, was the daughter of Mary Harden. Her parents were Isaac & Mary (Brumbaugh) Cromer. Isaac Cromer died in 1831.

1859 - Lewis goes before Probate Court and swears that Mary Hatfield is over 18 and his son Joshua is over 21, that neither has been married before and they are not kin closer than first cousins. This proves that he does go to Ohio after his second wife, Mary, dies in 1853. It is unclear if he ever returns to Pennsylvania.

In the 1900 Census, Samuel indicates that his father, Lewis, was born in Virginia.
Lewis first married Harriet Harper. Born ca 1789 in Maryland. Harriet died in Pennsylvania in 1839.671

In the 1900 Newaygo County Census, Samuel indicates that his mother, Harriet Harper was born in Maryland.

There was a Harriet Harper born at Baltimore in 1795. So far there is no reason to connect that Harriet to the one who married Lewis. There are 19 different Harper families listed in the 1790 Maryland Census.
