Written by John Nash for his grandfather's "autobiography" at Lyndon Institute, ca. 1952: "John F. Nash. Grandfather--to Nancy M. Davis at her request g--- the following memo--50 years service with Boston and Maine Railroad.
    "His father Franklin Nash, so named because his parents were at the time of naming admirers of Benjamin Franklin--He lived up to the name by later winning a Silver Medal struck in memory Franklin's - to such students willing them from the Boston Latin School, Boston, Mass.
    "His father Israel Nash and old time Boston Merchant, was a tea importer, sending his son Herbert to China on a sailing vessel in those days a three months trip. He lived in China 4 years at the peril of his life, as a white man was a White Devil in those days--to be done to death if the opportunity presented. He survived and learned the tea importing trade from cultivation to shipment.
    "John Nash's mother Eunice Cook Ford was a Mass. woman, a direct descendant of Gov. Wm Bradford the 2nd elected Gov of Plymouth Colony, he coming to Plymouth in the Mayflower in 1620.
    "Flora Nash--wife of John Nash was born in Lyndon Vt. Her father a merchant of Lyndonville for many years. She taught in public schools of Lyndon and her sister & brother were connected with Educational lines & Mass & Vermont."
