GLEN ULLIN - Harry C. Schirado, 84, Glen Ullin, died Sept. 20, 2005, at Medcenter One, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Loren Strum officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites performed by Lawrence Higbee Post No. 239 of the American Legion.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8:30 p.m. today at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
    Harry was born June 6, 1921, at Glen Ullin, the son of Anton and Katie (Rausch) Schirado. He was raised in the Haymarsh area and educated in a country school. He entered the U.S. Army Oct. 19, 1942, and served in Germany and Denmark. He was discharged Jan. 6, 1946. Dec. 16, 1945, he married Hollis Herman in Glen Ullin. Harry worked for the railroad for a while following discharge and later built his business in Glen Ullin, Harry's Repair Shop, while farming north of Glen Ullin. He was a rural mail carrier for 20 years and retired in Sept. of 1988.
    Harry loved the outdoors and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking. Harry was a member of the American Legion, a past fire fighter, and park board member, Lion's Club and the Elks.
Harry will be greatly missed by his wife, Hollis, Glen Ullin; his son, Harry Dean, Glen Ullin; his daughter, Renae Poitra, Gillette, Wyo.; one grandson, Chad Doll, Limon, Colo.; three brothers, Richard, Mike and Thomas, all of Glen Ullin; and three sisters, Pearl Voegele, Mandan, Jenny Karlin, Cool, Calif., and Lena Sorenson, Yuma, Ariz.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tony and Lester; and two sisters, Katherine and Joan.

On 16 Dec 1945 when Harry C. was 24, he married Hollis Herman, daughter of Emmanuel Herman (4 Feb 1886-19 Sep 1974) & Amelia Seiler (25 Aug 1885-24 Apr 1967), in Beulah, Mercer County, North Dakota. Born on 26 Oct 1925 in North Dakota. Hollis died in Glen Ullin, Morton County, North Dakota, on 5 Jul 2006; she was 80. Buried in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

    Hollis Schirado, known to everyone as Holly, age 80 of Glen Ullin died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. CENTRAL TIME on Saturday, July 8, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Glen Ullin with the Rev. Loren Strum, Officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 3:30 until 8:30 PM at Spangelo Funeral Home in Glen Ullin and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan; on Monday July 10th at 10 a.m. Central Time 
 Holly was born October 26, 1925 at Golden Valley, ND the daughter of Emanuel and Amelia (Seiler) Herman. She was raised and educated in the Beulah area. She met Harry Schirado in Beulah and was married on December 16, 1945 at Beulah. Holly worked for a while in the kitchen at the Glen Ullin School. She loved her garden and canning and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. 
 Holly will be greatly missed by her son, Harry Dean, Glen Ullin; her daughter, Renae Poitra, Dickinson, ND and one grandson Chad Doll, Limon, CO. She also leaves to mourn her two sisters: Opal Bates, Billings, MT, and Delilah Seise, Phoenix, AZ. 
 She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry on Sept 20, 2005, four brothers: Emil, Elroy, Ozzie, and Forrest and three sisters: Violet, Fern, and Shirley.

Richard Schirado, age 84, of Glen Ullin, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Central time on Friday, June 29, 2007 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt, as celebrant. Visitation will begin on Thursday, after 4:00 pm at the church with the Vigil services at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. 
 Richard was born July 30, 1922 on the family farm 14 miles northeast of Glen Ullin, the son of Anton and Katie (Rausch) Schirado. He was raised on the farm and educated at Union School. Richard married Josephine Filibeck August 29, 1944 at Sacred Heart in Glen Ullin. Following marriage they farmed for many years, some good some not so good. In 1978 they built a new home in Glen Ullin and moved into town in 1979 when Dick took over the farm. Richard operated a saw sharpening business and enjoyed woodworking and created many items. He was a board member for the Union School District for over 20 years and a charter member of the Glen Ullin Weighing Assn. 
 Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Josie, Glen Ullin; his children: Judy (Phil) Miller, Topeka, KS; Lila (James) Dixon, Colorado Springs, CO; SanDee (Howard) Wehri, Dick (Debbie) Schirado, all of Glen Ullin; Mischelle Schirado, Bismarck; Gaylen Schirado, Bonners Ferry, ID; and Carmen (Pat) Arthur of Vancouver, WA; 17 grandchildren and six and 7/9ths great grandchildren. 
He is also survived by his two brothers: Mike (Gerry) and Thomas (Kathy), all of Glen Ullin; three sisters: Pearl Voegele, Mandan, ND; Gen Karlin, Cool, CA; and Lena Sorenson, Yuma, AZ. 
 Richard was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Tony, Lester, and Harry; and two sisters; Katherine and Joan.

Richard and Josephine (Fillibeck) Schirado
    Richard and my retirement was of an unexpected nature. After accomplishing our last big project of building our dream home, we moved into Glen Ullin (511 Oak Ave.) in the spring of 1979.
    Richard kept very busy as a self-employed saw sharpener, whetting every kind of blade brought ot him. He also operated a fix—it furniture and repair service. Slowly he allowed himself to go fishing and before long he became addicted like all fishermen. He and his brother Harry spent many long hours together fishing a Lake Tschida. When the weather didn’t permit that hobby, wood carving tools replaced the fishing pole. His hands were always busy until his health began to fail.
    Richard endured a heart attack in 1980 and one surgery after another was followed by a stroke in 1994, and congestive heart failure. After an extended hospital stay at St. A’s in 2004, he was transferred to the mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He was then sent back to St. A’s and eventually to Manor Health Care Center for a time before returning home where our daughter, Shelly, helped care for him for 2 ½ years. He was also on Hospice during part of that time. In the summer of 2006, he was readmitted to the Manor Health Care Center where he passed away on June 26, 2007.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Jeffrey Zwack officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Glen Ullin.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin, where a vigil/rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Josephine Therisa (Filibeck) “Josie” Schirado was born March 19, 1923, in Glen Ullin, the eighth of 11 children born to John and Margaret (Fetter) Filibeck. She grew up on the family farm (now the Ray/Rick Filibeck farm) east of Glen Ullin. Josephine attended local schools including Dickinson State College where she earned a teaching certificate. On Aug. 29, 1944, she married Richard Schirado, the love of her life. The couple made their home on the Katie Schirado home north of Glen Ullin until 1979 when they built a home in Glen Ullin and moved from the farm.
Richard and Josie were blessed with seven children, Judie (Phil) Miller, Lila (James) Dixon, SanDee (Howard) Wehri, Dick (Deb) Schirado, Shelly Schirado, Gaylen (Tammy) Schirado, and Carmen (Pat) Arhur. Josie taught locally for a short time before and after her marriage. Her involvement in church and community activities was a testament to her love for life and dedication to her faith. She was involved in Christian Mothers in Haymarsh and Glen Ullin and served as president in both organizations for many years. She taught CCD at Sacred Heart in Glen Ullin and was also involved in church choir and bible group and served as eucharistic minister and lector. In 1982, the Richard Schirado family was chosen by the Knights of Columbus as the family of the year.
Josie not only lived her faith, but her faith and love for God were her identity. Always a teacher at heart, she never missed a “teachable moment” to creatively demonstrate a life lesson. To those who knew her well, she was fondly called the “Gadget Lady,” finding ways to simplify her work. She loved to garden and was known for the bread and strudel she made, as well as her homemade salad dressing. Her love for adventure and insatiable curiosity and eagerness to learn and try new ideas remained with her throughout her 91 years, as did her delightful and contagious sense of humor. Having an incredible gift of hospitality, friends and family always felt at home at Josie’s and were invited to “stay for dinner.”
She was an avid entertainer with her many games and puzzles to occupy guests and visitors. Not one to hold a grudge, Josie was quick to forgive and seek forgiveness from anyone she might have harmed. She embodied strength and gentleness.
Josie died on Sept. 12, 2014, surrounded by her children whom she dearly loved and who will miss her. She left behind 17 grandchildren who share many moments and fond memories of their beloved “Gramma Jo” and 23 great-grandchildren.
Among those who welcomed her on the other side were her husband, Richard; her parents; her 10 siblings, Rose Rausch, Nick, Martin, Agnes Gietzen, Ray, Johnny, Margaret Geck, Paul, Bob, and Darlene Tibor; and two infant grandchildren.

    Katherine was born May 31, 1924, on the family farm north of Glen Ullin, the daughter of Anton and Katie (Rausch) Schirado. She was raised on the farm and educated in rural school. In her early days she worked for the neighbors. Katherine served as a midwife for many years when children were being born at home. On Jan. 14, 1946, she married Martin Hoerner at Sacred Heart, Glen Ullin. She worked at the Rowen Cafe until 1962, when her interest turned toward helping the elderly keep their homes clean. Katherine enjoyed her hobbies of fishing and playing Whist and Pinocle. She entered the Marian Manor in October 2003, where she has resided since.
    She leaves her son and daughter-in-law Martin and Gloria Hoerner, Dickinson; three grandchildren, Mark (Heather) Hoerner, Catrina Hoerner and Jennifer Hoerner; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pearl Voegele, Mandan, Lena Sorenson, Yuma, Ariz., and Jenny Karlin, Cool, Calif.; and her four brothers, Richard, Harry, Clinton and Mike Schirado, all of Glen Ullin.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Eugene; her sister, Joan; and two brothers, Tony and Lester.

GLEN ULLIN -- Anton "Tony" Schirado, 68, Glen Ullin, died Nov. 25, 2001, in a Houston hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Glen Ullin.
    Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. MST Wednesday at the church, and will continue until services Thursday. A prayer service and rosary will begin at 7 p.m. MST Wednesday at the church.
    Tony was born Jan. 30, 1933, in rural Glen Ullin, the son of Anton P. and Katharine (Rausch) Schirado. He was raised and educated in the Haymarsh area of rural Glen Ullin. He served with the 76th Engineers in the Eighth Army in Korea during the Korean War. Following discharge, he was employed by Northern Improvement Co.
    Tony married Lorraine Hellman in Bismarck on April 2, 1956. In 1960, he started his own construction business in Glen Ullin, called Schirado Excavating and Ready Mix. Through the years, his business grew to include two service stations in Glen Ullin, the Crossroads Express, where he enjoyed spending the early morning hours serving coffee to his buddies, and Braun Oil, out of which he operated the bus routes for the Glen Ullin Public School Districts for four years, and recently added the Glen Ullin Laundromat.
    Tony also owned numerous rental properties, including two senior citizens housing complexes in Glen Ullin and New Salem. He was also a licensed pilot and owned his own aircraft.
    Tony was involved in many organizations. He was chairman of the Morton County Board of Commissioners, a charter member of the Crossroads Golf Association, charter president of the Glen Ullin Jaycees, past president of the Glen Ullin Lions and a past chairman of both the Glen Ullin Airport Authority and Park Board.
    Tony was a member of the fire department, Development Corporation, American Legion Eagles, Elks Forty and Eight and the Southwest Water Authority, and was a life member of the VFW.
    He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Scott Halvorson, Bismarck, Debbie and Joel Schafer, Glen Ullin, and Darcy and Russ Putnam, Hazen; three sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Paulette and Chuck and Kelli, all of Glen Ullin, and Randal and Marlene, Ottumwa, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Harry (Hollis), Richard (Josie), Mike (Gerry) and Clinton (Kathy), all of Glen Ullin; and four sisters, Katherine Hoerner and Pearl Voegele, both of Glen Ullin, Geneva (Aldon) Karvin, Spokane, Wash., and Lena (Kent) Sorenson, Camano Island, Wash.

GLEN ULLIN -- Otto J. Voegele, 69, Glen Ullin, died March 30, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday, at St. John United Church of Christ, Hebron, with the Rev. Thomas A. Zuhlke officiating. Burial will be in Glen Ullin Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. MDT Monday, prior to the church service.
    Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. MDT Sunday, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, both at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin. There will be no visitation at the church. A prayer service will be said at 5 p.m. MDT Sunday at the funeral home, and a family service will be said at 1 p.m. MDT Monday, also at the funeral home.
    Otto was born on April 27, 1930 in rural Glen Ullin to Jacob B. and Christianna (Ritter) Voegele. He was raised and educated north of Glen Ullin. He worked a while for a mine near Beulah before moving to the Bismarck/Mandan area where he worked several jobs. He worked construction in that area until he married Pearl Schirado on Nov. 11, 1959 at St. John's in Hebron. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Glen Ullin and farmed north of town until retiring in 1996. Otto was active in community affairs having been involved with the Fire Department, Glen Ullin Lions, Glen Ullin Development Association, School Board and a member of the Bismarck Elks. Otto was also active in his church, serving a number of terms on the council.
    He is survived by his wife, Pearl; two daughters, Cynthia (Marlin) Martin, Rapid City, S.D., and Linda Wegner, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Jea Lynn Martin, Houston, Texas, Dustin Martin, Lead, S.D., Christopher Wegner, Bismarck, and Robyn Wegner, Bismarck; four grandchildren; six brothers, Ted and Eugene, both of Beulah, Bill, Dan and Milton, all of Bismarck, Alvin, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and one sister, Ruth Kinnischtzke, Glen Ullin.

Obituary: - GLEN ULLIN — Thomas Schirado, 77, Glen Ullin, died May 19, 2015, at the Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Jeff Zwack as celebrant. Inurnment will be at St. Clements Cemetery, rural Hebron, at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with a rosary/parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
    Tom was born Feb. 10, 1938, to Anton and Katie (Rausch) Schirado in rural Glen Ullin. He was raised and educated in Glen Ullin.
    Tom married Kathleen Ann Kastner on Feb. 11, 1961, in Bismarck. They made their home in Glen Ullin, where Tom worked for the city of Glen Ullin for 35 years. He was known for his ability to fix anything mechanical like old tractors, trucks and wagons — he enjoyed taking them apart and then rebuilding them. He enjoyed his hobby farm and raising animals. He also enjoyed attending area auction sales where he would find the old tractors and trucks to rebuild. Tom was a member of the Glen Ullin Sacred Heart Church and was an active member of his community.
    Tom will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathleen, Glen Ullin; his daughters, Lisa (Mike) Daoust, Bloomington, Minn., and Laurie (Scott) Charette, Grand Forks; his sons, Bill, Plymouth, Minn., and David (Carrie), Glen Ullin; five grandchildren, Olivia and Autumn Charette, Derrick (Kristen) Duppong, Lindsey Schirado and Thomas W. Schirado; his sisters, Pearl Voegele, Mandan, Lena (Kent) Sorenson, Camano Island, Wash., and Geneva (Al) Karlin, Cool, Calif.; his brother, Mike (Geraldine) Schirado, Glen Ullin; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Schirado, Bismarck, and Allison Schirado, Mandan; one brother-in-law, Lee Walters, Virginia; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
    Tom was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Katherine (Martin) Hoerner and Joan Walters; four brothers, Harry (Hollis), Richard (Josephine), Tony and Lester; and one brother-in-law, Otto Voegele

J. first married Harold Glenn LaDuke, son of Victor Franklin LaDuke (8 Sep 1887-17 Oct 1955) & Mary Agnes Burns (6 Jan 1895-19 Apr 1969). Born on 18 Feb 1933 in North Dakota. Harold Glenn died in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, on 28 Feb 1992; he was 59.
