    RACE Merton "Bub" Franklin Race, age 95, a long-time Worthington resident, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2007. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Race, devoted father of John (Deborah) Race, Martha (Robert) Smith, Richard (Deborah) Race and Betsy (Stephen) Vegel; loving grandfather to Alison (Lloyd) Race-Hildebrand, Julie Adams, Cory Race, Ben Grueschow, Tim Race, Paul Smith, Katie Smith, John Race, Amy (Sean) Race Daily, Jared Crego, Jon Crego and Benjamin Vegel; doting great grandfather to Maddie Dailey, Katie Dailey and Jack Dailey; and a loyal friend to many. Merton was a World War II United States Army veteran serving as a Captain. Merton was a calm and gentle man who loved his family and greatly appreciated his dear friends. He loved to read and work crossword puzzles and even began using the Internet when he turned 80! He was dedicated to his job at Cam Taylor Realtors where he worked until a few weeks of his passing. We wish to thank Deborah, of Worthington, for her extraordinary comfort and care of our Dad. The family also wishes to express gratitude to Phil and Carol Giessler and the Cam Taylor Family who have been a significant part of his life and livelihood in his last years.
    A Memorial Service will be held 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington Chapel, 515 High Street, Worthington, OH 43085 (614) 885-4006, where family will welcome friends one hour before the service. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA, will be held later for the family. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation, attn: Memorial Donations, 555 South 18th Street, Columbus, OH 43205 or the Ohio Veteran's Home, 2003 Veterans Blvd., Georgetown, OH 45121, in his memory.
Merton Franklin married Elizabeth Joan Brown, daughter of Owen J. Brown (5 Jun 1886-1934) & Alice Holden (ca 1888-). Born on 10 Oct 1915 in Taylorsville, Christian County, Illinois. Elizabeth Joan died in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, on 22 Nov 2005; she was 90. Buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
