Obituary,Marcia Thomas
HINGHAM Marcia (Strobridge) Thomas, a Hingham resident for the past 54 years, passed on peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 24, 2009. She was 85. Mrs. Thomas was born in New York City and educated at Dobbs Ferry in New York and Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was a secretary to Nelson Rockefeller during the years he served as Ambassador to Latin America. Mrs. Thomas was an active volunteer for many organizations and was associated with a number of community groups including serving as Past President of the Hingham Visiting Nurse Association. She was also a member of the Women's Committee of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The Hingham Garden Club, The Hingham Historical Society and the Hingham Yacht Club. She traveled extensively and was a longtime communicant of the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Hingham. She was the wife of Robert B. Thomas of Hingham and mother of Virginia T. Sawin of Shrewsbury, Robert B. Thomas, Jr. of Falling Waters, W. VA, Malcolm B. Thomas of Albany, NH and Richard R. Thomas of Wiscasset, ME. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A service celebrating her life will be conducted on Friday, October 30th at 11 AM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham. Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would be appreciated to the Norwell VNA, 91 Longwater Circle, Norwell, MA 02066. The interment is private.
