2962. William de Ferrers Earl of Derby. Born ca 1162 in Ferrers, Derbyshire. William died on 22 Sep 1247.
William, sixth earl of Derby. He supported King Richard and was rewarded with lands and honors; at Richard's second coronation he was one of four who carried the canopy over the king's head. He supported King John, and was further rewarded; and he supported King Henry III, assisting at his coronation - all in opposition to the rebelling barons. {See Burke's "Dormant and Extinct Peerages" (London: 1883), p. 197 - William succeeded as 5th Earl of Derby and Ferrers, and was recreated Earl of Derby in 1199, thus becoming the 1st Earl in the new line. He died of gout.
Pernell married Hervey de Stafford (3259) , son of Hervey de Bagot Baron Stafford (ca 1153/1156-bef 25 Aug 1214) & Millicent de Stafford (2776) (ca 1153-bef Jan 1224/5). Born ca 1178 in Stafford Castle, Staffordshire. Hervey died bef 12 May 1237.
