Thomas and his wife Jane, their sons John, Thomas, Anne, and Elizabeth sailed from Weymouth, England, on or near 10 Mar 1635 with Rev. Joseph Hull’s Company. He came from Broadway, Somersetshire, Eng, and came ashore at Corchester 7 Jun 1635, then to the place now called Weymouth, built a house there, as he attested in court 2 Nov 1666. Ten acres were granted to him in the First Division and thirty acres in the Second Division 14 Dec 1663.83
Thomas, in Weymouth 1643, may have come several years earlier at Weymouth (whence rem. the first sett. of Rehoboth in that yr.) and though he was one of the grantees of Rehoboth, yer for not going to reside there his share was forfeited in Jan 1645. All his children probably were brought from England. Freeman 1643. Was of Dorchester 1652, last of Medfield 1668.25
Thomas has been said to be a descendant of Richard Holbrook of Somersetshire, England. Lived at Broadway, Somerset, England. Left Weymouth, England 30 Mar 1635 at age 34 in the Marygold with wife and oldest five children, arriving at Dorchester on 7 Jun 1635 and settling at Weymouth the same month. His will, dated 31 Dec 1668 with codicil 31 Dec 1673, and proved 24 Apr 1677, Weymouth, MA, names wife Jane, three sons, three married daughters, and grandchildren John, Peter and William Holbrook. Freeman 1645. A selectman at Weymouth six times (1641-1654), and a grantee of Rehoboth, MA, although he forfeited the grant and remained at Weymouth. 1494.John Holbrook. Born ca 1595 in Glastonbury, Somerset. John was baptized in Glastonbury, Somerset, on 20 Jun 1595.
John and his family need verification. According to Anderson,14 Thomas Holbrook “had a brother John Holbrook, whose fate was unknown in 1625 (Joseph Neal Anc 128). The absurd claim has been made tht this John Holbrook was already in New England in 1626, and was the father of every stray Holbrook male who later appeared in New England (M&JCH 17:89). There was no John Holbrook in Dorchester in 1635, and this entire proposed family did not exist.”
1495.Rebecca Holbrook. Born ca 1597 in Glastonbury, Somerset. Rebecca died in Massachusetts in 1688.
On 19 May 1617 Rebecca married Clement Weaver, son of Thomas Weaver & Margaret Adams, in Glastonbury, Somerset. Born ca 1590 in Glasonbury, Somerset. Clement died in Newport, RI on 10 Oct 1683.
