3007. John Tompkins. Born Jan 1608/9 in Edlesborough, Buckinghamshire. John died in Salem, MA on 23 Jun 1684. Occupation: yeoman.

John was not listed as a passenger when his parents came to New England in 1635, but was in Salem by 25 Ded 1637 when he and others were received as inhabitants. He was admitted freeman 18 May 1642. At the town meeting of 25 Dec 1637, land was istributed and John was given 1/2 acre of land which indicates only two in the family. On 29 Jan1637/8, the town granted to John Tompkins 5 acres lying by his other 5 acres. In 1666, John received the land in Salem that was owned by his father.
On 27 Aug 1632 John married Margaret Goodman in Edlesborough, Buckinghamshire. Born ca 1612. Margaret died in Salem, MA on 18 Jul 1672.25
