In 1694 [John] removed to Norton, Mass., and there took a second wife Sarah, by whom he had several children. From the published history of Norton I learn that he settled near the boundary line between Norton and Attleborough, upon a farm which, in 1859 was owned by George lane, a descendant. He was known in Hingham as ‘John Lane, shoemanker.’ Was a constble 1689.
Although it has been stated that John’ father was either George or Andrew Lane of Hingham, Ellen Jeanette Lane showed in her article “Parentage of John Lane of Hingham and Norton, Mass.” New Eng. Hist. Gen. Reg. 83 (1929): 466-467, that John was the son of William and Mary (Kelloway) Lane of Boston.
