John was selectman in 1679 and 1690. He was one of the Hingham men to embark in the unfortunate Canada expedition under Sir Wm. Phips. He held the commission of lieutenant. In his will, dated on the point of his departure at Boston, 6 Aug. 1691, he bequeaths to eldest son the estate in Hingham; ‘to my three younger sons all my land at Agawam, in Plymouth Colony;’ provides also for his two daughters then living, etc. Resided on the paternal homestead, Lincoln St.

On 2 Dec 1668 when John was 19, he married Martha Beal (6614) , daughter of Nathaniel Beal (2536) (ca 1620-20 Dec 1708) & Martha (-10 May 1692), in Hingham, MA.45 Born ca 1646 in Hingham, MA. Martha was baptized in Hingham, MA, on 2 Aug 1646.45

Martha first married John Chubbock, second Samuel Stodder as his second wife.
