John sold his grandfather’s legacy in 1668. The coroner's jury found “hee riding on the road, his horse carried him underneath the bow of a tree, violently forceing his unto the body thereof, broke his skull, which wee doe judge was the cause of his death.”

      In 1667 he appears on the treasurer's book as due by rates to the Colony £OO.09.00. He served on "Corrowners jury" in 1673; was constable for Duxbury in 1677; in 1679 was one of a committee to lay out a highway; in 1686 was summoned to serve on the jury, but neglecting to appear, was fined 10s.; was deputy to the General Court for Duxbury in 1689 and 1691. Res. Duxbury, where his children were born.

In Dec 1676 or 1678 Ruth married Benjamin Bartlett (11824) , son of Benjamin Bartlett (8825) (ca 1629-Aug 1691) & Sarah Brewster (3724) (ca 1635-aft 1670), in Duxbury, MA.239 Born on prob 27 Jun 1658 in Duxbury, MA.24 Benjamin died on bet 10 Dec 1717 and 10 Apr 1724; he was 58.24

Benjamin lived at North Hill, Duxbury, inherited his father’s farm, and lands at Rochester, and a double portion of his property.59

William moved with his father to Little Compton, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was admitted a freeman in the Massachusetts Bay Colony 1 Mary 1722.

On 27 Jun 1693 when William was 28, he first married Judith Tilden (21216) , daughter of Stephen Tilden (14948) (ca Oct 1629-22 Aug 1711) & Hannah Little (8836) (ca 1641-13 May 1710).24 Born on 1 Jun 1670 in Scituate, MA.121 Judith was baptized in Scituate, MA, on 14 Aug 1670. Judith died in Little Compton, MA (now RI), on 28 Jul 1714; she was 44.238
