This Deacon Jonathan and wife Sarah had eight children. The youngest, Richard, was an Episcopal priest and was rector at Derby 72 years. West Haven, Waterbury, Northbury and Oxford were also in his care. A grandson, Achilles Mansfield, was a Congregational minister at Killingworth, Conn., 1779 to 1814. His daughter Susan married Rev. Joshua Huntington, pastor of the old South Church, Boston. Many of the descendants of the deacon and wife Sarah are the most noted of the Mansfield family.
After the death of his wife in 1765 the deacon married (2) May 13, 1766, Abigail Dorman, who was the widow of Ebenezer Dorman of Hamden and daughter of James and Abigail (Bennet) Bishop. They had a son, Ezra Dorman, and three daughters, who married Allings, viz.: Hannah, who married Charles Ailing, Lois married Caleb Ailing, 3d, and Abigail, the wife of the Rev. Abraham Ailing, all of Hamden.
