David served in the French and Indian War, in 1755 in the 7th Co. (Capt. James Peck), 2nd Regt.; in 1757 in the 2nd Co. (Lt.-Col. Whiting), Col. Lyman’s Regt.; in 1758 in the 1st Co. (Col. Whiting), 2nd Regt.; in 1759 in the 11th Co. (Capt. Thomas Wilmot), 2nd Regt.; in 1760 in the 6th Co. (Capt. Amos Hitchcock), 2nd Regt.; and in 1761 in the 7th Co. (Capt. Amos Hitchcock), 2d Regt., being listed as a deserter from this organization, which may merely imply that he was absent witllout leave. He was commissioned Lieut. of the 9th Co. of the Alarm List in the 2d Regt., May 1779. He saw service in the Revolutionary War with the militia to which he belonged; and a document in the State Archives shows that shortly after the close of the war he was elected Captain of his company; but the nomination was not confirmed, as it was alleged that there had been irregularities in the election, and that Bishop while Lieutenant had sometimes neglected his duties.6
On 1 Oct 1756 when David was 20, he first married Eleanor Todd (36795) , daughter of Benjamin Todd (18832) (19 Nov 1693-28 Nov 1758) & Lydia Alling (17761) (23 Jan 1699[/1700]-13 Oct 1783), in New Haven, CT.56 Born on 10 Sep 1738 in New Haven, CT.56 Eleanor died in North Haven, CT, on 16 Feb 1780; she was 41.55 Buried in Old Graveyard, North Haven.
