David served in the French and Indian War, in 1755 in the 7th Co. (Capt. James Peck), 2nd Regt.; in 1757 in the 2nd Co. (Lt.-Col. Whiting), Col. Lyman’s Regt.; in 1758 in the 1st Co. (Col. Amos Hitchcock), 2d Regt., being listed as a deserter from this organization, which may merely imply that he was absent witllout leave. He was commissioned Lieut. of the 9th Co. of the Alarm List in the 2d Regt., May 1779. He saw service in the Revolutionary War with the militia to which he belonged; and a document in the State Archives shows that shortly after the close of the war he was elected Captain of his company; but the nomination was not confirmed, as it was alleged that there had been irregularities in the election, and that Bishop while Lieutenant had sometimes neglected his duties.6
