    Joseph lived on No. 36, which he bought of Martin Kellogg in 1710; was in the Meadow fight 1704; we find under date of Nov. 27. 1734, "a petition of Joseph Severance of Deerfield showing that about 21 years ago he was wounded by the Indian enemy, being a soldier in the service of the Province & has been a cripple ever since & like to be so till his death, and forasmuch he has never had anything from this Grov't for his support. Therefore praying for some allowance from this Court m consideration of his
wounds & his Disability therby." As a compensation the GeneralCourt granted him in 1735, 200 acres east of Northfield, bounded "South on a mountain called Grace;" corporal under Capt. Jos. Kellogg in 1723; clerk of Kellogg's co. 1747; selectman 1722.
On 17 Nov 1712 when Joseph was 30, he married Anna Kellogg (32282) , daughter of Martin Kellogg (22 Nov 1658-) & Anna Hinsdale (15024) (22 Feb 1666-19 Jul 1689).161 Born on 14 Jul 1689 in Hatfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.151 Anna died in Montague, Franklin County, Massachusetts, on 15 Mar 1780; she was 90.161
