    Joseph was a soldier in King William's war; at the age of 15 was in the “pomeroy pursuite” from the Deerfield garrison; a resident of Deerfield 1705–9; of Northampton 1712–24; captured. and taken to Canada while on a scout by a party of French and Indians under de Rouville, June 22, 1709; was active in Father Rasle's war; lieut., under Capt. Thomas Wells; a capt. in the Last French war and died in
the service, June 4, 1753; was buried in the camp burial grtjund near Fort William Henry.
Joseph married Hannah Arms, daughter of William Arms (ca 1654-25 Aug 1731) & Joanna Hawks (ca 1653-22 Nov 1729). Born ca 1685 in Deerfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts. Hannah died in Deerfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts on 24 Dec 1767.161
