    Samuel was captured by Indians at Hatfield 1698, and recovered in the Pomroy pursuit; taken again at Northfield, Oct. 11, 1723, he returned and settled in Deerfield 1730 on lot No. 23; in 1739 the General Court granted him 200 acres of land at Roadtown “in consideration of his sufferings while in captivity.”
On 24 Dec 1729 when Samuel was 41, he married Hannah Field, daughter of John Field (11 May 1672-28 May 1747) & Sarah Coleman (13 Feb 1673-8 Jan 1759), in Hatfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.161 Born on 8 Jul 1704 in Hatfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Hannah died in Deerfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts, on 3 Sep 1740; she was 36.161
