Nathaniel early espoused the Americancause, in the Revolutionary War, entered the Army in 1776, rose to the rank of Major, and acquitted himself with honor in the southern expeditions.

On 21 Nov 1765 when Nathaniel was 24, he married Sarah Hatch (45058) , daughter of Dea. Isaac Hatch (25742) (ca 1716/7-9 Dec 1799) & Ann Fisher (30 Oct 1718-bef Nov 1763), in Pembroke, MA.395 Born on 9 Jun 1747 in Pembroke, MA. Sarah died in Scituate, MA, on 25 Jan 1819; she was 71.
