    Jonathan Wheelock, of Mendon, purchased land in the Gore in 1755, now [1899] owned by Edgar J. Salisbury and others. He was chosed treasurer at the first meeting after the Gore was annexed. His son Eli built the large house at the North Side, used as an inn in the days of stage coaches, it being situated on the old Worcester and Stafford turnpike.
