His urbanity, readiness, accuracy and facility in doing business, made him a favorite of all classes. He was a Justice of the Peace throughout the commonwealth, several years a member of both branches of the Mass. Legislature, five years a member of Congress of the United States, and fourteen years steward of the marine Hospital in Chelsea.
