James Hervey taught school for several years in Wells, Hamilton Co., NY, then moved to Gloversville where he was in business; later to a farm in the town of Charlton; then to Charlton village. He bought a house in Jonesville, Saratoga Co., NY, of his unmarried sisters Lucinda and Lucretia, to which he moved shortly before 1890, the two sisters living there with him until they died.54
