Willis (also spelled Wyllis) relocated from Connecticut to Broome County, New York, in his early twenties as he purchased land on Trimk St. in West Winsor in Nov 1827 (Broome County Land Records, Binghamton, NY). This purchase was for 50 acres at $7.50 and was part of the Nichol Floyd Land Patent, and initial block of land purchased from the Indians and distributed to the settlers. In this relocation Wyllis joined several of his cousins who were anxious to move from southern New England because of poor soil, high taxes from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, and the desire for more land.
