From Edgar J. Bullard’s Bullard and Allied Families:
“Thomas Smith, immigrant ancestor of one of the early Connecticut families, came in the ship "Hector," which left London, England, in 1637, and arrived in Boston, Massachusetts, June 26, 1637, numbering among its passengers Governors Eaton and Hopkins in the company of Rev. John Davenport. The youngest person on the ship was Thomas Smith--not quite 4 years old--who must have come with his parents but no record of them has been found. He was born about 1634, and died at East Haven, Connecticut, November 16, 1724, aged 90 years. He married, about 1662, Elizabeth, only daughter of Edward Patterson. (See note.) She was baptized in New Haven, Connecticut, July 12, 1644, and died December 24, 1727. Thomas Smith succeeded to the rights of his father-in-law among the proprietors of New Haven.”

(Sometimes it is said that Thomas was the son of George and Sarah Smith of New Haven. They had a large family, but there’s no indication that Thomas was one of their children. Recent yDNA evidence show that they derive from different Smith families. See http://www.smithsworldwide.org/wwsmithreportgroupingcgshortlistb.asp for a summary list of known Smith affiliations by yDNA.)
