Israel and Elizabeth were married in July of 1699, and their first child was born in October, three months later. In December of 1699 they were charged with “fornication with each other while single persons”.

Israel’s will was dated 3 Jan 1733, probated 3 Nov 1740. Vol. VIII, page 248.
On 27 Jul 1699 when Israel was 32, he married Elizabeth Hatch (7384) , daughter of Jeremiah Hatch (14567) (ca 1626-ca 1712) & Mary Hewes (2696) (ca 1637-between 26 Oct 1714 and 22 Sep 1716), in Scituate, MA.52 Born on 10 Mar 1668 in Scituate, MA.52 At the age of 15, Elizabeth was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 9 Sep 1683.52 Elizabeth died in Marshfield, MA, on 12 Nov 1733; she was 65.

Israel and Elizabeth were second cousins; his paternal grandfather, William Hatch, and her paternal grandfather, Thomas Hatch, were brothers.

In 1812, Elizabeth’s sister Anna’s son Joseph was “brought to baptism by his uncle Israel And aunt Elizabeth Hatch”. Joseph was probably brought up by Israel and Elizabeth. Soon after Joseph’s birth, his father, also named Joseph Smith, had died, and his mother, Anna, married Amasa Turner. In 1811 Amasa died, and in 1816 she married Charles Stockbridge as his second wife.
