Nathaniel “settled at South End Neck, as appears in New Haven records, Vol. 4th: ‘Agreement between John Thompson, Thomas Hitchcock (son of Eliakim), John Dennison, Nathaniel Hitchcock and Samuel Smith, proprietors of South End Neck, to lay out all land in equal proportion: each one to have all he now possesses as taken up by first proprietors of said neck, shall be made up to him in 1st or 2d division of land.’ ... The following New Haven record is of interest here as grouping the children of this family and showing the locality of the homestead and also the various residences of the children at thiis later date. ‘Feb. 27, 1747-8, Nathaniel Hitchcock of Farmington, Hartford Co., Benjamin Hitchcock of Woodbury, Fairfield Co. and Daniel, Caleb, James, Rebecca, Jr. and Elizabeth Hitchcock of New Haven, for valuable consideration received by them of Stephen Hitchcock of New Haven, quit claim to him their right to dewlling house and land on which it is, which was their father Nathaniel Hitchcock’s late deceased, at South End Neck.”409

“New Haven records give this release: ‘Jan. 25, 1730—1, Samuel Peck of New Haven and Abigail his present wife, who was formerly Abigail Hitchcock, to John Hitchcock their brother, their right to certain land laid out to Mrs. Elizabeth Hitchcock.’”409

John “was a member of the Legislature seventeen sessions from 1739–1747. He was Deacon of the 1st church of New Haven from 1742–1753. His tomb stone is to be found in the Grove St. Cemetery, where it was placed whien removed form the center church yard. A catalogue of the stones removed says: ‘Dea. John, son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Moss) Hitchcock’”409

“The will of Abiah, widow of John, was admitted to Probate, June 7, 1758. New Haven records say that she died ‘Oct. 14, 1760.’ (?) She gives to her sons John, Samuel, Amos and Joseph each five shillings lawful money; the Bible to Joseph, (tradition says this was the old English Bible,) the rest of her property to be divided among her daughters. Amos was the sole executor.”409

Ebenezer “owned land in Milford, Conn., but lived in Amity Parish, New Haven. From New Haven town records ‘Feb. 3, 1721,’ we learn that, ‘John Hitchcock, farmer, and hhis brother Ebenezer Hitchcock, taylor, exchanged lands which had “belonged to our Mother Elizabeth deceased,” Ebenezer took that which lay near the Milford line.’ His estate was appraised Feb. 16, 1726-7, at which time his children were all minors.”409
