He afterwards removed to Burlington, Conn., where he died.”409

    “The following is an extract from the Hartford Courant of Sept. 20 1807 concerning Elizabeth (Mansfield) Hitchcock who lived to be nearly 101 years of age.
    “‘She was the widow of Mr. Nathaniel Hitchcock by who she had eleven children, four sons and seven daughters. Then of these survive. The eldest is 79 years old, the youngest 57. Her sixth, a son, died aged 62. By best accounts she had 78 grandchildren, of whom 60 are now living. Of the 4th and 5th generation but for have died. Of the whole 279 descendants only 23 have died and 256 remain.
    “‘At the age of 94 she rode 12 or 14 miles to visit one of her children. She was able, until her last sickness, to walk abroad and to go up and down stairs without assiatance.
    “‘She possessed a strong mind and retained her facultyies but little impaired until deranged by her last sickness. She had been for 70 years a professor of religion and ws constant in retiring twice a day for secret devotion, and enjoyed a humble hope of eternal glory through the redemmption of Jesus Christ our Load.
    “‘The sweet remembrance of the just / Shall flourish when they sleep in dust.’”409

Stephen “moved from East Haven to Southington, Conn., Feb. 27, 1747-8, when he paid to his brothers and sisters ‘valuable consideration for all their rights in his father’s estate,’ he is called ‘of New Haven’ and about 1760 is called ‘Stephen Hitchcock of Farmington, Conn.’ He possibley married 2d, Nov. 5, 1778, Mrs. Abigail Pardee. In 1785, April 27, Stephen Hitchcock of Southington gives land in Southington to his son Daniel. In 1788 Stephen and Abigail his wife were living in Southington.”409
