Matthew served in Capt. Amos Hitchcock’s Militia Co. for the defence of Fort William Henry, 1757, and went to Fort Edward with Major Hubbard. It should be noted that he had a cousin Matthew, born in 1711, to whom the above service may belong, but it is more likely that it pertains to the younger man; it was the cousin’s wife who died 24 Dec. 1780, and not the second wife of our Matthew.6

Administration on Matthew’s estate was granted, 3 Aug 1795, to his widow Phebe. Distribution to widow, only son Daniel, Mary Blakslee and Sarah Gilbert.
