On 1 Oct 1713 when Sarah was 20, she married Capt. Jonathan Alling, son of John Alling (ca 1647-25 Mar 1717) & Susanna Coe (16 Aug 1653-3 Apr 1746), in New Haven, CT.56 Born on 13 Oct 1683 in New Haven, CT.56 Jonathan died in New Haven, CT, on 13 Jun 1775; he was 91.55 Buried in City Burial Ground, New Haven.

    Capt. Jonathan Ailing was a successful business man, an energetic and prominent citizen, a valuable leader in the train band, of which he was a captain of the 6th Co., 11th Regiment Militia, and was elected and represented the colony in the Assembly or Legislature twenty-three times from 1730 on.
    Of his children, the first, Sarah, died young. Mary married Samuel Dickerman of Hamden. Jesse married Sarah Atwater and died without issue. His estate was distributed to his widow and his brothers and sisters. Oliver died unmarried. His will, made March, 1785, appointed his brother Joseph and his nephew, Samuel Dickerman, executors, gave his property to his sisters Susanna and Rhoda and to Thaddeus and Chauncey, sons of his brother Joseph. Susanna was the last survivor of Captain Jonathan’s children. She died March 5, 1820, aged 92, and her estate was distributed to the heirs of James, Jonathan, Joseph and John Ailing and Mary Dickerman.

    Capt. Jonathan Alling’s will was dated May 25, 1767, and presented in Probate Court, August 4, 1775, by James Ailing, the surviving executor.
    Abstract.
    Imprimis — Gives to dau. Mary Dickerman, five lbs. lawful money in addition to former gifts. Item— To dau. Sarah Smith, the same. Remainder, both real and personal, thus:
    To the heirs of Eldest s. John, deceased, One Share and a half share, to each of two youngest daus. um. and now with me 3/4 part of one share, that is the heirs of my s. John, deceased, shall have 30 lbs., s. Jonathan 20 lbs, s. James 20 lbs., s. Joseph 20 lbs., Jesse 20 lbs, s. Oliver 20 lbs., dau. Susanna Alling 15 lbs., dau. Rhoda Ailing 15 lbs., that is in that proportion.
    Appoints sons Jonathan and James Exers.

        “Capt. Sackett is frequently referred to in colonial records of New Haven as ‘Deacon Samuel Sackett.’ These early records show also that he was prominent in business and social circles as well as in military and religious affairs. In 1736 he was appointed a Lieutenant and in 1754 commissioned Captain of the ‘5th Company or Train Band’ in the town of New Haven. He was a Justice of the Peace in 1748 and 1749, and again from 1758 to 1776. In 1759 the Governor and General Council of Connecticut authorized Samuel Sackett and several other prominent citizens to organize a company and build and maintain a bridge across the ‘New Haven East River.’”
