Joseph “was born earlier than 1717 for he is called Jospeh, Sr., on the New Haven records. Those records also seem to show that Joseph lived at one time in Bethany; ‘April 24, 1771, Jospeh Hitchcock of New Haven society of Bethany to Ebenezer Hitchcock of New Haven society of Mt. Carmel piece of land which was laid out to Ebenezer of New Haven.’ ... His widow Abigail administered on his estate in Oct., 1774.”409
