William (yeoman), son of William and Abigail Butter, inherited the homestead of his father. He was one of the men under ye command of Capt. Cadwallader Ford, Jr., of Wilmington, who enlisted ye 9th day of March, A.D. 1775, to be at a minute's warning, and marched on ye alarm to Concord ye 19th day of April, A.D. 1775; also in Capt. Jesse Wyman’s company in the Regiment of Guards doing duty on Bunker Hill, commanded by Col. Jacob Gerrish, Feb. 1778; also in Capt. Nathaniel Cowdrey’s company in the Regiment of Guards doing duty on Winter Hill, Col. Gerrish’s command, July, 1778; also in Capt. David Goodwin’s Co. in Col.
