William (yeoman), son of William and Abigail Butter, inherited the homestead of his father. He was one of the men under ye command of Capt. Cadwallader Ford, Jr., of Wilmington, who enlisted ye 9th day of March, A.D. 1775, to be at a minute's warning, and marched on ye alarm to Concord ye 19th day of April, A.D. 1775; also in Capt. Jesse Wyman’s company in the Regiment of Guards doing duty on Bunker Hill, commanded by Col. Jacob Gerrish, Feb. 1778; also in Capt.     James, son of William and Abigail Butters, inherited that part of his father’s estate which was the homestead of his great grandfather. Through his generosity he furnished from his apple tree to Col. Baldwin the scions which produced the fruit called eventually the Baldwin apple. ... He marched on the Lexington alarm April 19, 1775, in Capt. Timothy Walker's Co., in Col. Green's regiment of militia; also marched on the alarm at Bedford and Falmouth, in Elijah Small's Co., in Maj. Zenus Winslow’s regiment, Sept., 1778.

    Joshua, son of William and Abigail Butters, when a young man, went to Boston to learn the trade of a tailor, which occupation he followed. He purchased property in Boston, which he sold to John Hubbard April ID, 1793. He afterwards went to Woburn for a time, purchasing, July 23, i8oi,of Benj. Wyman, and sold out Sept. 23, 1808, to Ezra Kimball. He was baptized in Stone (King's) Chapel in 1766. He married May 16, 1783, Lucy Rumney, of Boston, Mass. (No children).
On 16 May 1784 when Joshua was 35, he married Lucy Rumney in Boston, MA.

Joshua Butters and Lucy Rumney were married in Boston by Rev. Samuel Stillman on 16 May 1784.
