    James, son of William and Abigail Butters, inherited that part of his father’s estate which was the homestead of his great grandfather. Through his generosity he furnished from his apple tree to Col. Baldwin the scions which produced the fruit called eventually the Baldwin apple. ... He marched on the Lexington alarm April 19, 1775, in Capt. Timothy Walker's Co., in Col. Green's regiment of militia; also marched on the alarm at Bedford and Falmouth, in Elijah Small's Co., in Maj. Zenus Winslow’s regiment, Sept., 1778.
