From the Butters Family:209
    William, son of William and Elizabeth (Boutwell) Butters, inherited the homestead of his father in Wilmington, Mass., and followed the occupation of a farmer. He was made executor of his father's estate at the request of the widow, Esther (Weston) Butters, his stepmother.
    He served in the Revolution, enlisting July 29, 1780, in Capt. William Green’s company, in Col. Cyprian Howe’s regiment, at Rhode Island. He was placed upon the pension roll April 13, 1833, age 74 years, for service as private in State troops and militia.
    While feeding his cattle in the barn he fell in a fit of apoplexy; was carried into his house and died in a few days, March 2, 1836. He was buried beside his first wife in the cemetery at Wilmington. His grave has been decorated with a Revolutionary marker, commemorating his service to his country by the Massachusetts Society Sons of the American Revolution,
    In his will he bequests to wife Lydia all property brought by her at marriage; also mentions his children, Lucy, Sewell, William, Jacob, also grandchildren Frank and Elizabeth Tyler.
On 28 May 1787 when William J. was 27, he first married Lucy Eames, daughter of Jacob Eames (12 Jun 1732-) & Lucy Frost (9 Apr 1737-), in Wilmington, MA.399 Born on 14 Jan 1757 in Wilmington, MA.399 Lucy died in Wilmington, MA, on 25 Sep 1832; she was 75.399

    He enlisted Oct. 17, 1780, seaman, on board the sloop Morning Star, and he is described as stature 5-7; complexion dark; age 19. He also enlisted in the War of 1812, in the detached company of Capt. Hastings, in Lieut Col. Dudley’s regiment, from Sept. 13 to Nov. 7, 1814.
    He followed the business of market gardening, living for a time in Concord, and moved to Lunenburg about 1810.
On 21 Sep 1795 Amos married Abi Wilson, daughter of James Wilson & Abi Wheeler.164 Born ca 1773 in Bedford, MA. Abi died in 1859.164
