    Mr. Phelps was a farmer, and first settled in Hebron, Ct. In 1746 he removed to the upper end of Old Simsbury near Granby, thence to Green River, near Austerlitz, N,Y., where he died at the house of his son Jonah, 10 June, 1795, and was buried in the old Calkins burying ground.

    Mr. Phelps first settled in Hebron, Ct., where he resided up to 1766, when he removed to Belcher, N.Y., where he resided about two years, then returning to Hebron, Ct., later in life removing to Cambridge, N. Y., where some of his children had settled, and where he d. in 1789, in his 67th year. He served in the Revolutionary War, drafted in Capt. Skinner’s Co., 25 Aug., discharged 2 Nov. 1777.

    (#465) Elijah Phelps, b. Hebron, Ct., 31 July, 1724, m. 1 Aug., 1748, Jemima Wilcox as his third wife. His 1st wife was a Miss Millard. His 2nd wife a Miss Jennings. They both died young and without issue.
    Mr. Phelps was a farmer, first settling in Hebron, Ct., where he lived a short time, from there to Nine Partners, N.Y., and thence to the Wyoming Valley. After the war he returned to New York State, residing in Dover and Amenia, N.Y., where he died.
    He served in the Revolutionary Army, and was a great sufferer in the Wyoming Valley Massacre.
    At one time he had four sons in the service.

    (#469) Capt. James Phelps, b. Hebron, Ct., 1732, m. Rebecca Curtis, 21 Feb., 1760, in Kent, Ct., by Rev. Sylvanus Osborn.
    Capt. Phelps resided for a time in Kent, Ct,, where one of his children was born, removing to Southwick, Mass., where he died 10 Mar., 1831, in his 99th year. Says a descendant of this family, “He served in the French war and also in the Revolutionary war. He was Capt. in the French war of 1755, commanding a company of 96 men, and in the battle of Quebec, I think, he was severely wounded. After the battle only fourteen could be counted in his company. There were a number of Phelps’s in his company.” Says another descendant of this family, Louis Phelps, “When I was a boy, I think in 1826, a brother of my grandfather paid my father a visit, a fine looking old gentleman, supposed to be nearly 100 years old. He had regained his second sight and could see to read the finest print, but could not hear a word. He attended church with us and remarked to my father, ‘That was an excellent sermon. I know it was good from the manners and gestures of the minister.’ He was a captain in the French war.”

    Mr. Phelps was a farmer. He first settled in Hebron, Ct., where his children were born. He removed to Southwick, Mass. After the death of his 2nd wife, he removed to Hillsdale, N.Y., where he died Apr., 1837, twelve days short of 103 years. He served in the Revolutionary war, enlisting in the 2nd regiment, July 1780, discharged 3 Dec, 1780. Was one of ten sent hy Col. Hooker from Greenwich with nine Tories.
