From the Cummings Memorial about Elisha Cummings:149
    “Near of score of sales or purchases are on record as made by him in or near Topsfield. It is said that during the war of the Revolution he held some commission with reference to supplies for the army. This commission took him to Meredith, N. H., and adjacent towns. At any rate, he came up from his old home in the latter years of his life to live with Nathaniel or other children.”

From the Cummings Genelogy:612
    “He made several sales and purchases of land which are on record, and was of Topsfield as late as 1757, and sometime thereafter remove to Bridgewater, N.H. He has a long and faithful record of service in the war of the Revolution, serving in three different companies.”

New Hampton, New Hampshire

New Hampton is a small town a few miles west of Lake Winnipesaukee in the western part of Belknap County adjacent to Grafton County. It was granted in 1765 with the name Moultonborough but in 1777 when it was incorporated as a town it was named New Hampton. Then it was in Strafford County, one of the five counties of New Hampshire at tht time. In 1840 New Hampton was put in the newly created Belknap County which was formed from the western part of Strafford county. In 1797 the northeast part of New Hampton was set off as the town of Centre Harbor.

From the History of Merrimack and Belknap Counties, New Hampshire, edited by Duane Hamilton Hurd, Philadelpha: J.W. Lewis & Co., 1885, page 870 there’s a history of New Hampton. Something like a census for the town can be gleaned from the following paragraph:
    In 1784 the following persons petitioned the Governor and Council for the appointment of Benning Moulton as a justice of the peace :

On 22 Nov 1744 Elisha first married Mary Andrews (33480) , daughter of John Andrews (15869) (16 Sep 1688-Mar 1745) & Patience Andrews (15840) (29 Mar 16[90/1]-bef 1741), in Topsfield, MA.206 Born on 26 Apr 1725 in Boxford, MA.206 Mary died bef Jul 1776.
