From the Genealogy of the Cushing Family, pages 105–106:2
    Charles was a member of the Committee of Correspondence 1779-81, and served with the Continental Army all through the Revolutionary War. As Captain of a Hingham company in Gen. Thomas’ command, he was in the expedition to Canada, and saved his company form the ravages of small pox, so generally disastrous to the army in that expedition by the then ultra proceeding of innoculation. He returned on horseback across the Hoosac Ridge. Afterwords, Colonel of a Continental Regiment. Representative 1780-81-84-90-91-92-93, and member of the Senate 1794.
    He removed with his family, in 1791, from Hingham to Lunenburg, Mass., and settled on what has since been called the ‘Brook Farm’, about one mile west of the centre of the town, where he died in 1809 His wife lived to be quite old with her daughter Mrs. Harrington; she used to say she was the youngest of 16 sisters.
On 23 Feb 1769 when Charles was 24, he married Hannah Croade (52100) , daughter of Thomas Croade Esq (46101) (18 Apr 1697-) & Rachel Cushing (35251) (3 May 1705-), in Halifax, MA.435 Born on 24 Jul 1747 in Halifax, MA.435

Charles and Hannah were first cousins. His father and her mother were siblings.
