Next door is the family of Robert Lee and his wife Bridget. He is 32, and she is 40. Both were born in Ireland. Benjamin, age 4, was born in Michigan. Robert also has personal property worth $100. Like Austin, Robert is a farm laborer.

Austin and Robert may have been working for Jedadiah Fields, age 57. He was born in Connecticut. His wife Bethana is age 50, Jesse is 24, Lyman is 21 and Emma is 16. Jedadiah is a farmer with real estate worth $3,000 and personal property of $700. Jesse and Lyman are farm laborers, and Emma is a schol teacher. Morris Cochling, 32, is a carpenter and joiner. Bethana and the children were born in New York. Morris was born in Prussia.

Also in the first ward of the 1870 census for Grand Rapids, is a John Joyce, 35, a laborer who was born in Ireland. He is living in a hotel run by John Shields, who was also born in Ireland. Ann Shields is 43, was born in Ireland and keeps house. Mary is 19, Helia is 18, Kate is 16, Jane is 14, Emma is 12, John is ten, Elizabeth is five, Frances is three and Adelaide is two. All were born in Michigan. Other boarders appear to be: Thomas Mc Gaughlin, 24, born in Michigan and a Railroad Engineer; and Morris Cashin, 25, born in Ireland and a laborer.

In the Second Ward in 1870, is Henry Joyce, 38, a shoemaker who was born in England. Ann is 29, keeping house and was born in Ireland. Albert is seven, William is three and Henry is one. Albert and William were born in New York and Henry in Michigan.

Record number1224 book 8 page 317 Kent County Death Records states that Bridget Joyce died on 26 Sep 1912 in Grand Rapids of senile gangrene. She was 89, a widow and was born in Ireland. Her father was named ? Toot. Informant Mrs. Edward Joyce. Burial 30 Sep 1912 at St. Andrews.

Bridget was buried at St. Andrew's Cemetery on the same lot with Austin, Gaylord, Harold E., and Madlyn Joyce Sullivan.

EARLY RESIDENT OF CITY IS DEAD AT SON’S HOME
    Mrs. Bridget Joyce, an early resident of Grand Rapids, died today at the home of her son, Edward Joyce, 467 Kalamazoo avenue. She was eight-nine years old and for many years resided at Goodrich street and what now is New avenue. Besides Edward, she leaves another son, Austin, also of this city, and eight grandchildren. Mrs. Joyce had been an invalid a long time.
