Born on 18 Apr 1819 in Spencer, MA.596 Phineas died in Newark, New Jersey, on 19 Apr 1884; he was 65. Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Hillside.     After the death of his father in 1850, Phinehas moved to New Jersey, where he engaged in business and became prominent. He was elected to the Congress of the United States, and served with distinction and ability.

Phineas was a member of the city council of Elizabeth, New Jersey, from 1856 through 1860. He moved to Newark, then was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly in 1873 and 1874. He was elected as a Repubicn to congress for a term, 1881-1883.
