The family was coming from Hungary and spoke Magyar. The port city, Fiume, is now called Rijeka in Croatia, then part of Austria-Hungary. The town they came from is hard to read, something like Hajdu tosmanny. Hajdu was a county that became part of what is now the county of Hajdú-Bihar in eastern Hungary. The intended final destination was Grand Rapids, Michigan. The city, Fiume, is now called Rijeka in Croatia, then part of Austria-Hungary.
