Obituary and Death Notice
GLEN ULLIN - John M. Filibeck, 55, Glen Ullin, passed away on July 27, 2010, at his home on the family farm in rural Glen Ullin. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. CDT Monday, Aug. 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Arul Joseph celebrating. Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
    Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. CDT Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a rosary and vigil service at 7 p.m. CDT.
    John M. Filibeck was born Sept. 2, 1954, to John J. Jr. and Agnes (Gietzen) Filibeck in Richardton. He grew up in Glen Ullin, attending Sacred Heart Grade School and later graduating from Glen Ullin High School in 1972. After high school, John entered the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Fort Richardson and Fort Greely in Alaska. While there, he served on the Arctic Military Mountaineering Team. He also pursued a degree in geology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He later transferred back to North Dakota due to his mother's failing health and finished his military service in Nekoma.
    He met Janet Franklund while the two were working construction in Bismarck. They later married on Aug. 27, 1983, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. After marriage, the couple moved back to Glen Ullin, where they worked for the Henry J. Kaiser Company during the construction of the Dakota Gasification Plant. John later took a job at the Bureau of Reclamation at Heart Butte Dam, where he was employed for the past 24 years.
    John was a member of the Glen Ullin Knights of Columbus and the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as the leader for Troop 41. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
    John enjoyed hunting and shooting. His greatest love was fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends while out on the boat or at the cabin.
    John is survived by his wife, Janet, Glen Ullin; his daughter, Joni Marie, Glen Ullin; his son, John Victor, Glen Ullin; and his sisters, Janice Filibeck, Glen Ullin, Joyce (Jim) Ulmer, Bismarck, Jane (Dennis) Schiele, Bismarck, Mary Ann Filibeck, Lincoln, and Donna (Ron) Emter, Bismarck.
    He was preceded in death by his parents.
