3495. Samuel Dudley. Born ca Nov 1608 in Northamptonshire. Samuel was baptized in All Saints Church, Northamptonshire, on 30 Nov 1608.152 Samuel died in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire 10 Feb 1683/4.152

SAMUEL, Exeter, b. not, perhaps, at Northampton in Eng. a. 1610, as often said, came with his f. in 1630, was lieut. in 1631, freem. 7 Oct. 1640, m. 1632 or 3, Mary, d. of first Gov. Winthrop had in Boston prob. Thomas, bapt. 9 Mar. 1634, H. C. 1651; John, 28 June 1635; Margaret, at Cambridge, d. young; Samuel at Boston, b. 2, bapt. 11 Aug. 1639, d. within four years; and at Salisbury, Ann, b. 16 Oct. 1641, wh. m. Edward Hilton of Exeter. His w. d. 12 Apr. 1643, but he soon m. ano. Mary, wh. is by Mr. Dean Dudley with much prob. conject. to have been sis. of Henry Byley, had Theophilus, 31 Oct. 1644; Mary, 21 Apr. 1646, d. soon; Byley, 27 Sept. 1647; Mary, again, 6 Jan. 1650; and Thomas, again; and by third w. Elizabeth had Elizabeth b. 1652; Stephen; James, b. 1663; Timothy; Abigail; Dorothy; Rebecca; and Samuel; but we kn. not their respective dates. He was rep. for Salisbury 1644, had some desire to go to New London; but was some yrs. at Hampton, and finally bec. the min. at E. and d. 10 Feb. 1684. Mary m. Samuel Hardy of Beverly; Abigail m. a Watson; Dorothy m. 26 Oct. 1681, Moses Leavitt; Rebecca m. 21 Nov. 1681, Francis Lyford; and Elizabeth m. 25 Sept. 1674, Kinsley Hall.25
Ca 1632 Samuel first married Mary Winthrop, daughter of Gov. John Winthrop (12 Jan 1587/8-26 Mar 1649) & Mary Forth (-Jun 1615). Born ca 1611/2 in Great Stambridge, Essex. Mary was baptized in Great Stambridge, Essex, 19 Jan 1611/2.16 Mary died in Salisbury, MA on 12 Apr 1643.

3496. Anne Dudley. Born ca 1611 in England. Anne was baptized 20 Mar 1711/2.152 Anne died in Andover, MA on 16 Sep 1672.16

Anne was a lady celebrated for her poetical talent.25 Two studies of Anne Bradstreet and her poetry are by Elizabeth Wade White, Anne Bradstreet: The Tenth Muse (New York, 1971), and by Ann Stanford, Anne Bradstreet: The Worldly Poet (New York, 1974).
Ca 1628 Anne married Gov. Simon Bradstreet (2563) , son of Rev. Simon Bradstreet (1166) (ca 1580-Feb 1621) & Margaret (-1631), in England. Born 18 Mar 1603/4 in Horbling, Lincolnshire.16 Simon died in Salem, MA on 27 Mar 1697.16 Occupation: magistrate.

Simon, of Cambridge, Ipswich, Boston, was a few years at Andover, and spent his latest days at Salem, after Sep 1695. s. of Simon, a min. it is said, bred at Emanuel, Cambr. Univ. enter. there 1617, and matricul. 9 July 1618, as a sizer, had his A. B. 1620, and A. M. 1624, came in the fleet with Winthrop 1630, chos. an assist. 18 Mar. bef. and so cont. by Ann. elect. 48 yrs.; secr. 23 Aug. 1630 to 1636; dep.-gov. 1673-8; gov. 1679 to 1686; and again after the rising against Sir E. Andros 1689-92.25

His sec. w. Ann, wid. of capt. Joseph Gardner, d. of Emanuel Downing, younger by more than thirty yrs. wh. he m. 6 June 1676, d. 19 Apr. 1713, aged 79.25

On 18 Oct 1632 Patience married Maj.-Gen. Daniel Denison, son of William Denison (ca 1570/1-25 Jan 1653/4) & Margaret Chandler (ca 1577-3 Feb 1645/6), in Cambridge, MA.16 Born ca 1612 in Hertfordshire. Daniel was baptized in St. Michael’s Church, Bishop’s Stortford, on 18 Oct 1612. Daniel died on 20 Sep 1682.

3498. Sarah Dudley. Born ca 1620 in Lincolnshire, England. Sarah was baptized in Sempringham, Lincolnshire, on 23 Jul 1620.25 Sarah died in Roxbury, MA on 3 Nov 1659.152
By Jun 1639 Sarah first married Maj. Benjamin Keayne (14872) , son of Capt. Robert Keayne (-aft 1656) & Anne Mansfield (5356) (ca 1596/7-1667).16 Born ca May 1618 in London, England. Benjamin was baptized in St. Michael, Cornehill, London, on 14 May 1618. Benjamin died in Boston, MA ca 1667. They were divorced by 1647.16

3499. Mercy Dudley. Born on 27 Sep 1621 in Oakley, Northamptonshire. Mercy died in Newbury, MA, on 1 Jul 1691; she was 69.152
On 20 May 1639 when Mercy was 17, she married Rev. John Woodbridge (4085) , son of John Woodbridge (ca 1582-1637) & Sarah Parker (1616) (15 Apr 1583-), in Andover, MA.152 Born ca 1613 in Stanton, Wiltshire. John died in Newbury, MA on 17 Mar 1695.

"Was brought by his uncle, Rev. Thomas Parker, whose living was at Newbury." He attended Oxford University. he came to New England in 1634, settling in Newbury, MA as a planter. (Farmer, p. 328) He served as Town Clerk of Newbury from 1634 to 1638. Minister. He was at first a husbandman or farmer. About 1642, Thomas Dudley, his father-in-law, advised him to become a teacher, or minister, which advice he followed. He was a Deputy to the General Court, 1639-40-41. In 1643 he kept school in Boston; he was ordained over the church in Andover, 24 October 1645. (Mather says 16 September 1644.) (Farmer, p. 328)

He returned with his family to England in 1647, where, among other situations, he became a minister at Andover, Haunts. and Bedford, St. Martins, Wiltshire, from which place he was ejected at the Restoration. In 1662 he was driven from a school in Newbury, England by the Bartholomew Act, and in 1663 he returned to New England. He was Assistant of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1683-1684.

He became assistant to his uncle Parker, whose sister Sarah his father had married, but was dismissed 21 November 1670, because of church dissensions. He died in Newbury, Massachusetts 18 March 1694, aged 84. (From BiblioDesiderata, 1871, page 25.)
