Dudley, of Andover, freeman 1674, representative 1677, 1690, and 1691, col. of the militia, nam. by James II. of the council to Gov. Joseph Dudley, yet patriot, and of the council of safety 1689. In the ferocious prosecution of 1692, for witchcraft, he was so lenient, or judiciously incredulous of the crimes imputed to his neighbors as to be strongly suspected of the same horrid or ludicrous offence.
