John first married Hannah Parke; second Elizabeth (Weld) (Gore) Tucker, widow of Samuel Gore and Benjamin Tucker; and third Mary Smith, widow of another John Smith.

John, as appears by Rev. Peter Hobart’s diary, married in Hingham 8 May 1645 Sarah, daughter of Dea. Ralph Woodward and of Mary, his wife. Freeman 1647. Lieutenant 1661; was in active service during King Phillip’s War, and had command of a fort; was elected “captain of our foote company of Souldjers” Mar 1683; selectman in 1663, 1775, 1670, 1674, 1675, 1682, and 1683; representative in 1683, 1684, 1685, and 1687; an Assistant in 1686, and continuing to serve until the new charter. Resided on Main, opposite Leavitt Street, about where the store of F. Burr & Co. now [1893] resides. His will was dated 27 Apr 1685, proved 6 Jun 1695. Inventory £1,106 18s.
