    In early life Samuel was a sea captain. Soon moved to Pittston and engaged in shipbuilding. He built many vessels at Pittston and Bath. One, the brig Silvena, was commanded by his brother, Amos. Others, the schr. Hannah and brig Eliza, were commanded at different times by Samuel Oakman, Jr. Samuel Oakman was prominent in public affairs and particularly in Revolutionary matters. His wealth was seriously dimished in the war of 1812, when nearly all his vessels, being on the high seas, were captured by the British. Grand elms, now [1901] over a century old, set out by him, remain to adorn the street where he built him a home.
Ca 1773 Samuel married Hannah Agry (58735) , daughter of Thomas Agry (47592) (13 Mar 1722/3-19 Oct 1783) & Anna Dimmock (48753) (23 Nov 1721-6 Aug 1807). Born ca 1754 in Hingham, MA. Hannah was baptized in Hingham, MA, on 6 Oct 1754. Hannah died in Pittston, Kennebec County, Maine on 16 Apr 1788.280

    Tobias was a sea captain and commanded a privateer during the revolutionary war. He was captured and committed to an English prison 23 Jan 1788, from which he made his escape. In an engagement near Eastport, ME, he narrowly escaped death, a ball from the enemy passing through his hat. He was a taxpayer in Boston in 1783.
On 22 Jul 1779 when Tobias was 28, he married Olive Little (54302) , daughter of Lemuel Little (41199) (8 Dec 1724-30 Dec 1798) & Penelope Eames (38031) (17 Apr 1731-26 Aug 1803), in Marshfield, MA.     Amos had command of the ship Greenway, which was captured by the French off the Spanish coast in January (?) 1794. he moved to Lunenburg, MA, and has numberous descendants living in Lunenburg, Fitchburg, Turner’s Falls, etc.
On 1 Feb 1787 when Amos was 28, he married Sylvina Thomas (48203) , daughter of Nathan Thomas (51382) (30 Aug 1730-12 Aug 1803) & Sarah Bourn (30533) (ca 1732-29 Oct 1822), in Marshfield, MA. Born on 20 Nov 1766 in Marshfield, MA. Sylvina died in Lunenburg, MA, on 1 Dec 1814; she was 48.280
