Pane-Joyce Genealogy
Johannes Seger (27155) & Catharina Pietersen
46045. Johannes Seger. Born ca 1755 in Albany, Albany County, New York. Johannes was baptized in Reformed Dutch Church of Albany, on 30 Mar 1755.156 Johannis, son of Johannes Seger & Catarina Pieterse witnesses Johannes & Brechje Seger [Johannis’s parents, i.e. grandparents].
46046. Thomas Sager. Born ca 1757 in Albany, Albany County, New York. Thomas was baptized in Reformed Dutch Church of Albany, on 5 Jun 1757.156 Thomas, son of Johannis Seger & Catarina Pieterson, witnesses Thomas Seger [Johannis’s brother] & Catarina Pieterson [perhaps Catarina’s mother?].

In Onondaga's Centennial,598 the Town of Tully is covered on pages 889–904. In it, it is mentioned that a Thomas Sager drew lot 19 for services as a soldier in the Revolutionary war. Lot 19 is a square mile of farmland a couple miles north of Tully center. Warren St, County Rd 111, passes through the center of it.

There are three Thomas Seger/Sagers who had land holdings in Tully.
(a). Thomas Seger who died in the Revolutionary war in 1778 and his heirs were awarded lot 19. He was son of Evert Seger & Sarah Archer, grandson of Johannis Seger & Brechie Wheeler. His heirs included his siblings Josina, also known as Syntje and Cyntia; Johnannes, also known as John; Hendrick; Jacobus, also known as Jacob; and George.
(b). Thomas Seger Sr of Albany, cordwainer. That may be Thomas, the first Thomas’s uncle, son of Johannes Seger & Brechie Wheeler. It’s not clear how he received 1/6 part of lot 19. Perhaps he bought it from one of the inheritors. Cyntia, Jacob, and John had sold theirs in 1795.
(c). Thomas Sager Jr, husband of Mary, this Thomas Sager. Thomas Sr (b) didn’t mention a Thomas in his will, but that may be because he transferred land to Thomas Jr. in 1799. Thus Thomas Sager Jr (c) may be the son of Thomas Sager Sr (b). Another possibility, however, is that this Thomas was the Thomas Seger baptized 5 Jun 1757 at Albany, son of Johannes Seger and Catharina Pietersen, whose baptism was witnessed by Thomas (b), Johannes’s brother.

The Albany Lutheran Church lists three baptisms on 22 Aug 1786 with the parents of two of the children being witnesses for the baptisms of two of the other children.
Edward, b. 2 Nov 1785, son of Thomas & Maria Segar, witnesses John & Elisabeth Rewbuttom [Rhubottom]
John, b. 30 Jun 1786, son of John & Elisabeth Rewbuttom, witnesses Joseph Johnson, John Greenwood & Anna May
Josiah, b. 1 Mar 1785, son of John Ashmore & Elisabeth Rothbone, witnesses Thomas & Maria Segar

There was an Alexander Seger, husband of Mary Potter, about the same age as Thomas with children baptized at the the Albany Lutheran Church. It’s been suggested that Alexander was a son of Staats Seger & Susanna Bradt, but that’s unlikely since the names of Alexander’s children don’t correspond. There was an earlier Alexander Seger in Albany who may have been Alexander’s father.

Thomas and Maria Seger were also witnesses the next year for the 11 Mar 1787 baptism of
John, b. 17 Jan 1787, son of Peter & Rebecca Catell [?Peter D. Catell, b. 10 Jul 1760 at Upper Makefield, PA]

The New York genealogical and biographical record volume 35 (1904) has the Amenia, N.Y., Church Records. They’re scattered through the volume starting on page 61 with the baptisms of 1749. The church is “The Old Red Meeting House”. Some of the names have Dutch roots from New York, others English from New England.
