Josian succeeded his father as a physician in East Bridgewater, where he had an extensive practice. In the Revolution, 1780, he was a Surgeon in Col. John Jacob’s Regiment with service for three months to reinforce the Continental Army.42

57775. Capt. Isaac Otis. Born on 24 Sep 1752 in Bridgewater, MA. Isaac died in Otisville, Orange County, New York, on 2 Nov 1838; he was 86.168

“At the commencement of the American Revolution, in 1776, Captain Otis, being filled with an ardent zeal for the independence of his country and the cause of equal rights and privileges, volunteered his services in defense of his country’s rights, and enlisted in the regiment under the command of Colonel Shepherd, in Captain Denforth’s company of militia of the Massachusetts line, and continued in service for the space of five years. At the conslusion of the Revolutionary War, Captain Otis settled at Cumberland, in the State of Rhode Island, and subsequently emigrated to the State of New York, where he resided for the last twenty years of his life.
    “It is said he was a man without an enemy, of a mild, amiable disposition, kind and affectionate, and of a noble and generous heart. He left numerous friends, and died in the full confidence of a blessed immortality.”168

Isaac served in the Revolutionary War for five years, a part of the time as one of Gen. Washington’s Life Guards.42
