On 16 Jun 1763 when David was 21, he married Joanna Thwing, daughter of Nathaniel Thwing (17 Aug 1703-18 Apr 1768) & Joanna Davis (27 May 1707-6 Sep 1749), in Boston, MA. Born on 21 Jun 1741 in Boston, MA. Joanna died in Boston, MA, on 26 Feb 1814; she was 72.

On 11 Jul 1772 when Abigail was 27, she married Hon. Nathan Cushing (52173) , son of Dea. Joseph Cushing (35281) (21 Nov 1711-2 Jan 1767) & Lydia King (35328) (26 Dec 1716-), in Pembroke, MA.52 Born on 24 Sep 1742 in Scituate, MA.2 Nathan was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 10 Oct 1742.335 Nathan died in Scituate, MA, on 4 Nov 1812; he was 70.52 Buried in South Parish Cemetery, Norwell. Education: Harvard 1763.2

From The Genealogy of the Cushing Family, page 117:2
    Nathan graduated from Harvard College in 1763. “He was first a preacher and afterwards a lawyer. He was a delegate to the Plymouth County Congress, held at Plympton 26 Sep 1774 and one of the signers of the manifesto issued at the Plymouth Congress 4 Oct 1774. In 1776 he was appointed Judge of Admiralty, and with great firmness condemned the captured British vessels, which brought him into notoriety as a patriot. He was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court in 1789, in which office he continued until 1801, when he resigned. He was afterwards a counsellor of the State. He was a gentleman of noble form, commanding countenance and courteous manners, distinguished more for solid judgment and discretion than for eloquence.” When Massachusetts became a State, action was taken by the Legislature on the subject of a state seal and under date of 13 Dec 1870 we have the following record: “Ordered that Natahn Cushing be a committee to prepare a seal for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.” His report was afterwards accepted and the device he recommended is still in use as the Arms of Massachusetts.

From the 1790 Mass. Census: "Cushing, Hono^ble Nathan, Esq^r 3 1 5" in the town of Scituate, Plymouth County. There were nine people in the household: three male adults (at least 18 years old), one male child, and five females.

On 18 Dec 1777 when Joseph was 24, he married Sarah Parker (57610) , daughter of Peter Parker (45302) (23 Apr 1720-15 Nov 1765) & Sarah Ruggles (58676) (17 May 1732-22 Sep 1802).17 Born on 17 May 1761 in Brookline, MA.17 Sarah was baptized in Brookline, MA, on 24 May 1761.17 Sarah died in Boston, MA, on 12 Feb 1827; she was 65. Buried in Granary Burial Ground, Boston.
